Expending client base in interpretation and translation services: Have you ever thought of working w

Networking with another professionals and companies is the key to grow freelance translation or interpretation business sector. It is also very challenging to develop steady cooperation with perspective clients since the market is overwhelmed with any type of translation services. However, if one possesses creativity, and knows which domains are demanding, and less competitive, he or she may find networking and self-promotion easier to conduct. By brainstorming an interpreter or a translator may discover, for instance that a Speech- Language Pathologist will need his or her services.

What does a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) do? SLP evaluates, diagnoses and treats individuals who exhibit speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders. Now, you may wonder why this professional needs your interpretation or translation services. SLP who works in culturally diverse areas such as Australia, Canada or United States (USA), he/she finds working face-to-face with an interpreter necessary. For instance, according to the U.S. Census Bureau there are approximately 50 million people in the USA who speak a language other then English at home. (American Community Survey, 2002). In Los Angeles, one of the most diverse cities in the USA there are 150 languages spoken in public schools, and many cultural communities such as: African American, Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Polish, Russian and other. When working in US public schools, SLP is required by the law (Special Education Legislation) to conduct assessment in student’s native language. That’s when an interpreter or a translator plays an important role. An interpreter can be involved in many different tasks such as participating in process of evaluation, diagnosis and treatment when collaborating with SLP. One of the responsibilities is to translate spoken words from one language to another when SLP performs the standardized or non-standardized testing, and gives instructions to a patient. In addition, an interpreter will be involved in some type of analysis that will help SLP to distinguish between language difference and language disorder. An interpreter therefore, will not only interpret words but also pay close attention to the production of sounds, language competence such as grammar, pragmatics of given culture and cognitive behavior of a patient. An interpreter will help SLP to determine if a mother tongue of a client is deviant, and if the “errors” that occur in second language are due to interference of first language. Moreover, an interpreter will be needed during an interview when SLP collects background information from a client such as medical, developmental history, speech/language acquisition history, and family and social history. Furthermore, an interpreter may be needed during treatment when SLP or a client decides that therapy in native language is necessary and beneficial. A translator may offer his/ her services to SLP since the questionnaire forms, consent forms, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and progress reports should also be presented in native language of a client who may not be able to read in his second language. How can I network with those professionals? First of all find places that are cultural and linguistically diverse. Promote your services by contacting or even visiting public schools, private practices that offer speech/language therapy, hospitals, local clinics, rehabilitation centers, nursing care facilities, colleges and universities, state and local health departments, state and federal government agencies, home health agencies. Also, visit ASHA (American Speech Hearing Association) website.

Proposal Writing Strategies

There are two main reasons to write a business proposal. Either someone has invited you to submit a RFP (Request for Proposal); or you are trying to gain support or funding from your employer or another organization.

When drafting a proposal the most important thing to keep in mind is that the reader is looking for benefits; they want to know how your product, service, or idea adds value to their operation. Therefore your proposal must be well-written and it also must clearly indicate how you can fulfill a current need.

Here are a few tips to help you improve your proposal:

1. Make the proposal about your customer. A proposal is not the time to tell about your mission, your locations, or how long you have been in business. Instead you should state how these (or any other) aspects benefit your client.

2. Show and don’t tell. Do not tell your prospect what you can do for them, but show them using clear examples. Avoid unsubstantiated hype like “best value”, “low risk”, and “cutting edge”; unless you are willing to prove it.

3. Be careful not to include irrelevant information. If you are making the proposal about the reader, and showing instead of telling, then you should have no problem with this.

4. If you are responding to a RFP, read the request more than once. You want to ensure that you completely grasp the requirements.

5. Show your creditability. Who have you worked with before? How did you help them and how does that relate to the company you are submitting this proposal to?

6. Watch your language. It is very important to make sure your proposal is politically correct. Additionally, you want to avoid jargon unless it is commonly known in the field you are targeting. Also, avoid writing in passive voice.

7. Include samples if it is appropriate. This is a great way to show that you are capable of handling the job.

8. Be specific. State your time frame for completing the project and your rates (if applicable). This will help eliminate differences in expectations.

9. Above all, if you are a poor writer, seek assistance. Proposal writing is time-consuming and it requires a certain amount of skill.

Multiply Your Links Online

I feel the most effective way to get people to link to your web site is by offering web masters the option of giving away your free stuff. In exchange, they link to your web site. Why would other web masters want to do this? They may want give away a freebie to draw traffic to their web site. They also may not have the time, knowledge or skills to give away certain types of electronic freebies from their web site.

Your links will just keep multiplying. When a web master offers your freebie to his or her visitors. Those visitors may decide to also give away your freebie. And so on and so on… The more people that link to your web site the more traffic you’ll get. Below are four of the most popular types of freebies given away on the internet to increase traffic.

Free Software

Offer free software from your web site. The software could be freeware, shareware or demos.

Free Online Services

Offer a free online service from your web site. The online service could be an e-mail account, search engine submission or e-mail consulting, etc.

Free Information

Offer valuable free information from your web site. The information could be a report, article, e-book, online audio recording or e-mail course, etc.

Free Affiliate Program

Offer a free affiliate program from your web site. The affiliate program could be pay per sale, click through, two tiered, etc.

Now, I know, there are many other ways to get links like trading or exchanging links with other web sites or joining a banner exchange. You can also do joint ventures or cross promoting. I feel these are not as effective as multiplying your links. I hope this article can help you increase traffic to your web site.

Make More Money as a Ghost Food Writer

MAKE MORE MONEY AS A GHOST FOOD WRITER

Like high pay? Have self-confidence? Know food; write well? Ghostwriting may be a career move for motivated writers who are willing to write for high pay but no credit or byline.

Simply put, a ghostwriter is someone who writes a book, speech, article or editorial that will be published under someone else’s name. Celebrity autobiographies are usually written by ghostwriters and established novelists have been known to supply the plot and outline to a ghostwriter who takes the book the rest of the way to publication.

People who need ghostwriters are those who have a recognizable name or business and either cannot write well enough for publication, or do not have the time to write for publication. In a ghostwriting foodie’s dream, a celebrity chef will give the idea, notes, outlines and rough drafts to the writer who will write, rewrite, research, interview and edit the manuscript heading to a publisher.

The celebrity chef’s name and photo will grace the book cover. Her recipes and tips, and the ability to get her book in bookstores everywhere as well as the cachet to get booked on Oprah will get the book published and marketed.

What’s in it for the ghost writer? Anywhere from $100 per finished page to a split of the royalties.

Ghostwriters need to keep their connection with their work confidential, and have a willingness to work around the client’s travel and work schedules. As in every writing assignment food writers win, strong writing and editing skills are essential. Most ghostwritten books are promoted as written by the client, so a strong ego able to withstand reading the praise of the client’s writing is also a must.

When looking for ghost food writing work, be cautious with the auction sites. Neophytes bid low for jobs; you don’t want to bid a book that nets you only $1 a page. Instead, visit sites that list jobs – writersweekly.com, writing-world.com, craigslist.com – or find an editorial firm that does ghost writing and see if they are hiring out any work.

Break into ghost food writing by contacting trade magazines with your writing samples. Dazzle them with your writing and the editors are likely to match you with an executive chef or restaurateur who can’t write but will bring prestige to the magazine.

Food writers can turn their culinary knowledge into ghost writing by looking for jobs ghostwriting cookbooks for famous chefs, penning speeches for food executives, writing trade articles for food research scientists, blogging for a local culinary artist, and creating “autobiographies” for owners of food manufacturing firms and Food Network hosts. Keep working behind the scenes and you can build up a lucrative career as a ghost food writer.

Motivational Speaker, Executive Coach, Sales Trainer

A key characteristic of a successful business is its ability to give clients what they need in a way that keeps them coming back for more. The concept seems easy enough, but how does one actually go about doing it?

There is a lot to consider when providing for a client; not only do you have to keep the needs of your sales leads in mind, but you also have to know the limits of your company and your sales associates. It’s a lot to think about for just one customer, isn’t it? Not really. People become lifelong customers for very simple reasons – respect, commitment, and understanding. Offer these basic human needs to customers and they will come back for more.

Respect. Exactly how does one respect a client? By providing an experience at the point of sales in which he or she feels free to make choices. This means not pressuring clients when they are hesitating. If your sales associate doesn’t push, your customers will feel respected and will respect your sales representative for giving them the time to think. They will leave with a good feeling and choose to do business with your business and your sales representative again.

On the flip side, make sure you provide your customers with abundant information about what you have to offer them. If they have questions, no matter what they are, be willing to answer them honestly and concisely. If you don’t know the answer, volunteer to find out. They will appreciate your honesty. When you actually get back to them with they answer, you will win them over.

Commitment. By staying in touch with your clients, you exhibit a commitment to keeping your clients happy and involved. When we commit to our customers, and to supplying them with the best, they will commit to our products or services. You can show your commitment with an email to let them know about changes in your business and specials you are offering, or by steadily supplying them with information that helps them make better decisions.

Understanding. Probably the most challenging service to offer is understanding. To fully understand the client’s needs, a company must first understand the needs of the target population as well as those of the accessible population. Once a clientele is established, it’s time to learn the needs of each client individually.

Some clients will walk in knowing exactly what they want. Others will be seeking ideas. Understanding where each person is coming from will make him or her a return customer. For those clients who know what they want, offer them what they are looking for, and then let them know what else you can offer. You will have met their expectations, but will have also gone out of your way to truly understand their needs. For those clients with only a vague notion of what they want, spend time asking questions and guiding them to a decision with which they feel comfortable. If clients feel understood and have their needs met, they will be lifelong customers.

Customers have the power to make or break a business. If customers enjoy the time spent with your business, they likely become repeat customers and will tell others about their experience.

We must remember that clients are people; treating them with respect, understanding, and showing a commitment to their happiness will create an atmosphere where people want to visit.

If there is ever a question of what to offer a customer, do one simple thing; think of a good business experience you’ve had in the past–a company you regularly visit or have referred to friends–and offer that to your clients. If you choose to provide for them, they will choose to come back to you.

A Writing Exercise That Increases Awareness And Description Skills

Practice attaching words to feelings requires time to do. Without a system that helps you monitor that time, the minutes or hours could feel unproductive. With the right exercise, you can then use that time wisely, as well as save you time and frustration.

Learning to apply the right words to our six senses is a top ingredient to the mixture of writing. Its language brings the reader into the story. All of us easily know how we feel, or what we’re seeing (okay, most of the time), what we’re hearing, smelling, tasting, and sensing, and can usually explain it in 50 words if pushed to do it. But, how do you describe it in one or two words without the pushing?

Also, by beginning with good material, the remaining part of the writing process becomes easier. This exercise will help you improve your beginning.

This is a simple exercise that you can do anywhere, anytime, in a space of minutes or longer. You can practice Monday mornings in the garden, the doctor’s waiting room, or in the lunchroom. It can last as long as a television commercial (oops those aren’t short any longer), or you more aggressively with a devoted 30-minutes a day. Whatever length of time or place you have, it will always improve your skill.

You will want to sit while completing this exercise.

Okay, let’s start with the most difficult spot, your supplies — paper and your writing instruments. Landscape, portrait, small, or regular size sheet of paper doesn’t matter. I define what paper size to use by the amount of time available and my location. If I’m mobile, I use my small journal. If I’m at my desk or at home, I use a regular size paper. Sometimes lines, sometimes not. Sometimes the exercise flows over to two or three sheets. Don’t limit the experience by paper size. Have fun with the recording tools as well. Experimentation is the key to our curiosity. And, curiosity is the foundation of a writer.

Draw a circle on the page and place your name in the center. Large, small, in color, black, or blue, again it doesn’t matter. Use whatever flips your pancakes at that moment. In other words, whatever feels good at the time.

Your objective is to describe your five senses, six if you have that gift, with words. Write the words that express that sense in the space inside the circle randomly around your name.

Here is how you would use this exercise to increase environment awareness and description. Write your words in the location on the paper relevant to the direction it appears. For example: I’m sitting outside my office on a 9th floor balcony at the moment, I hear a heavy humming from the tires on the wet pavement below and birds chirping above me to the right. I would place the words for the tires on the bottom left and the chirping on the upper right on my page.

Here are nine prompts to help you expand your experience. * Write words describing your atmosphere–the quality of air. * What are the clouds doing? Can you see animals in their shapes? * The temperature of your location. * The source of light and its quality. * Where are people standing or sitting? * Shadows, are they’re any? Where and how do they fall? * Predominant colors, wall colors, wallpaper, molding, chair railing, textured ceiling. * What do you smell? Using comparisons are a great way to relate to your reader. The air feels like just getting out of the fogged shower stall. * Are there other people around you? How do they smell, their clothes, their shoes? Guess at what they might do for a living. Are they dressed like someone on their way to work, doesn’t work, a mom, dad, baker, or what?

After you are comfortable describing your environment, spice the exercise up another notch. Compare your descriptive words to something else. For example: The room you are sitting in feels like a sauna with my clothes on.

Continue spicing up the exercise to increase your awareness and descriptive powers–use people and objects. Since you are most familiar with yourself, begin there.

After practicing on the most familiar subject, yourself, create a list of other familiar people in your life. Then sort the list from most familiar to least. Continue down the list. Somewhere during these lists and practice sessions, you will begin to feel comfortable with your skill.

You can continue taking the exercise to another level. This time you are ready to expand your awareness and adaptation to words. Visit the local mall; sit in the food court for smorgasbord of new enriching thoughts-to-words experiences.

Here are 11 prompts to help you expand your levels: * Describe what you are wearing. * How does your body feel? * What are your hands doing? * How does your throat feel? * How are you holding your mouth? * Eye movement * Breathing * How do you feel in general, in detail? * Name your mood. Does it have a flavor and color? * Describe your feelings with reference to music. A certain song or type of music. * How does your hair smell, clothes, the chair you’re sitting on, the book you’re reading?

Be patient with yourself while practicing. This exercise isn’t the easiest to complete, however, it is the most effective. Even if you aren’t a writer, this exercise will help you triple your awareness skills in a short time period1. This exercise also helps police officers, speakers, judges, attorneys, or anyone else that uses their awareness skills to see and put it into words. This is also a NLP–neurolinguistics programming skill–for those aware of this process.

Google Progressive for Poker

Internet advertising mogul and search engine company Google has taken progressive steps in the UK to get the online poker word out.

Due to lifted legislation on TV gambling advertisements in the UK, Google has partnered with some of the top UK regulated online casinos and poker rooms and is offering up ad space on the search results page as sponsored links and relevant advertising.

While the legislation was originally intended to allow gambling operators to advertise on the television, the words of the legislation were broad and Google argued that it also covered online advertisements. As such, a ruling on October 18th has granted the web advertising prodigy the ability to place ads related to gambling and poker, thus allowing the casinos to reach out to the information superhighway audience with their digitized billboards.

To quell some of the debate over the ads, Google has also promised to only display the ads in the UK market they were given express permission to display in.

And, in the event that some people may find the advertisements offensive, Google is coding them as ‘not-family save’ so that popular proxy programs will be able to identify them as unsafe for children and thus restrict access.

Several activist and religious groups have however displayed outrage and surprise at the company’s move.

How A Self-publishing Writer Can Identify The Best Affiliate Programs

When it comes to selecting lucrative affiliate schemes, self-publishing writers have several advantages over non-writers. Probably the biggest one, even if it is not obvious to most writers, is the fact that a self-publishing writer already has the most lethal and effective marketing weapon known to the online world already in their possession. Others have to pay dearly to have access to this powerful online asset.

Writing and self-publishing or posting articles on the World Wide Web is one of the most effective online marketing tools anywhere. Self-publishing writers have the advantage of being able to do their own writing and in as much quantity as is necessary to be a success. Non-writers who wisely choose to use online self-publishing to market are usually forced to pay another online writer to do their writing for them.

Unfortunately this advantage is not fully appreciated by most self-publishing writers and many do not even believe that well written articles are such a powerful online marketing tool.

Although more and more writers are making serious money online from various affiliate programs, the vast majorities remain frustrated and unable to sell their services let alone make any money online from affiliate programs. Yet, make no mistake about it, affiliate programs offer the best opportunity for self-publishing writers to make a regular five or even six figure incomes. The truth of the matter is that it is much simpler for a writer to make serious cash from an affiliate program or two than it is for them to do so just from their writing. More so when you take into consideration the usual rates in the market for online writing.

So how does a self-publishing writer identify the right affiliate programs to join?

The Self-publishing Writer Should Go Where They Will Make The Best Use Of Their Skills

There are dozens of lucrative-looking affiliate programs that are bound to be competing for your attention at any one time. You may even know people who have already made it big with one affiliate program or other. Still a golden rule is that you should never join an affiliate scheme where you cannot make use of your special talents and skills. This is a rule that applies to anybody planning to join any affiliate scheme.

Everybody was born with some special talent. The purpose of that special talent was to get us through this journey called life. Yet most of us have chosen to ignore our talents and have instead preferred to imitate what others are doing as closely as possible. Be warned, doing this is the same as a Lion admiring the way a Cheetah hunts for food, using its’ sheer speed to race across the jungles of Africa to catch a speeding Antelope. Imagine what would happen if the King of the jungle would choose to start hunting like that? The lion is much slower than the Cheetah and has to get very close to it’s intended prey before it shows itself, and races across a shorter distance to catch its’ prey. Still it has the advantage of much more strength and power. A single swipe from its’ front paws can break the neck of most antelopes.

My point here is that we should always look to use our “assets”. The Lion knows better than to try and hunt like a Cheetah, because it would fail miserably. And that is precisely the reason why most folks fail at the affiliate programs they join.

A self-publishing writer is bound to be a very skilled or talented writer. So why not join an affiliate program where you can make use of this advantage? Why waste your time joining an affiliate program where you have to send out your ads to hundreds of safe lists or do some other unfamiliar online chores to succeed when you can write?

One Affiliate Program Where Self-publishing Writers Are Making A Fortune

The Google Adsense Program is an example of a popular affiliate program where self-publishing writers are already making a killing. Make no mistake about it, it is not easy to make money from Adsense, but self-publishing writers have a huge advantage over non-writers.

When I first joined the Adsense program I was bitterly disappointed at what I was earning. But then I soon noted that I was doing very little writing and spending all my time trying to find some magic formula to instantly start earning thousands of dollars. Although I acknowledged that I had a lot to learn, I decided to make use of what I already had – writing skills. So I started writing like crazy. It worked. I created many pages within my blogs and sure enough my earnings started rising steadily as I continued to learn and put my knowledge into practice.

You will not make instant wealth from Adsense, but it represents one of the best and most viable long-term Affiliate programs for any self-publishing writer to consistently make a regular five or six figure income. Especially those prepared to use their writing skills to the maximum even as they learn about the right keywords to use to maximize on earnings.

Actually to be totally honest, Adsense is one of the easiest affiliate programs to start making money from quickly. Other programs (apart from writing ones) have taken me months to earn a pittance. With Adsense, the first few cents were flowing in within a few days.

Self-publishing Writers Should Look For Affiliate Programs For Writers

There are not many affiliate programs for writers around yet, but a few good ones exist. And before I recommend one, let us make sure that we understand and fully appreciate the full value of an affiliate program specifically for self-publishing writers.

One of the other golden rules for making serious money from an affiliate scheme is to join a program dealing in a product or service that has a high and rising demand. There is a huge and rising demand for online writing. This demand is set to grow for many years to come. So any affiliate program for writers that allows a writer to refer other writers and earn revenue from this is very valuable because it means that a self-publishing writer can cash in on the demand for online writing by earning an income from other people’s writing. If that affiliate program also sells articles on behalf of writers and also allows writers with blogs or sites to refer webmasters looking to purchase content to that site then we are in serious business.

Unleashing your Potential

Every single one of us is born with potential. It may not be the same potential (we can’t all be artists or singers), but we all have our own unique gift or value proposition that is waiting to be found and nurtured.

Are you one of those people they said had potential? Were you the college football star, the math genius or the leading lady in the school production? Are folks wondering 10 years later what happened to you? Why you didn’t make it, with all that talent? How many people do you know l ike that, people who had great potential but are still keeping it on a tight leash today waiting for “who knows what”? Perhaps you are one of them. If you are, I highly encourage you to rethink your reasons for doing so and start living out your potential.

You may be asking yourself then, where and how do I start? The first step is to find out Why you are holding on to your potential so tightly. Ask yourself, What is holding you back from your greatness? Remember, we ALL have potential. Not just a few of us. One of the biggest reasons that people hold back is because of FEAR.Fear of being successful, fear of failing, fear of the unknown, fear of having to keep up the good work. Does this sound like you? If so, you just brought light and consciousness to something that has been hidden for a long time. Good Start!!!

Now, in order to unleash your greatness, you will need to clean house and make room for your expansion program. You see, what you focus on, expands. Starting today, you are going to focus on your greatness and that is going to take up a lot of room, so let’s get started.

You are going to need to shed your self- limiting beliefs,, commitments to actions that no longer serve you , face truths that may be unpleasant and get rid of fears that no longer work. DO NOT let this scare you. You do not have to do this by yourself. Consider hiring a Life coach. Having a good Life Coach in your corner can give you the courage and the support you need to take these actions now and insure your success.

Once the clutter is gone, you now have room to unleash that great big whirlwind of potential that is YOURS. Nurture it, revel in it and most of all, use it! However, there is one caveat, and that is the price you will need pay for your happiness. This has nothing to do with money and is small change for what you get in return- the opportunity of walking into your greatness. Curious? Well the price of greatness is being willing to take risks, to express yourself, to take a chance at failing, to go through uncomfortable circumstances – and that’s the thing most people aren’t willing to do. You cannot by- pass the process. You can however think of exchanging one negative for a whole lot of positives.

When you start living up to your potential and unleash your greatness, you will feel settled, secure and more confident then you ever have before in your life.Everything will just seem to ‘fit’ and you will feel like you finally found your way home.
