Who Was That? He Looked Familiar

When is a spirit not a Spirit? Best to begin at the beginning.

In the last century there was a famous man who many said was going to lead his country to a new level. All his admirers believed the advertisements that claimed he was destined for greatness and would bring a new era of prosperity to ‘This Great Country’ that would not be forgotten. It was ‘half true’ the new era will not be forgotten, the copywriters had that right!

This ‘beginning of a new era’ seems to happen every 33.4 years. In the present century the Spirit is with us now. He has taken over the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth and is doing what he does best. The nation is being bankrupt and stripped of its dignity. Its leader is spending most of his time covering his ass, and his efforts are failing. His Ministers are traveling the world denying any wrong doing. As soon as they put out one political fire another one springs up to take its place.

The leader is finished and knows it. He can only hope that his term runs out before the public discovers the Fire that he has been hiding for the past 6 years, when they figure out what has happened his party will be out of power for the next 16 years or more.

It will be very hard for any succeeding party to repair the damage done, but we can only hope that they will find a way.

The Police have arrived at George’s place and have questioned him about the Hole in the Wall. George knows nothing. He was still in bed with a terrible hangover when it took place. Also he does not own a tank and if he did he would have to take lessons to learn to operate it. He was in the Air Force.

There is a new development in the case. A strange looking ‘Beatle Crusher’ drove up and offered Hillary and Jimmy a ride to the seminar. They took the ride as they were eager to leave the company of the “Creepy copywriters” and it appears they may have been taken hostage. The SUV they were seen climbing into was described as “out of this world”. Witness’ say the driver was wearing a black robe and there where some scythes on the roof rack. It was described as seeming to glide over the road. It was noted that three witnesses said they heard the sound of a fife being played. No one could remember seeing the car in the Barrio before.

There have been no demands for ransom yet. They missed the seminar and have not been heard from since. This report came from FreeWordNews at http://www.FreeNewArticles.com

Gaming Hardware Guide – Learn What It Takes To Make A Gaming Computer

So you’re into gaming, and you’re looking to turn that shabby computer into a gaming powerhouse? You don’t necessarily need an expensive gaming computer though, you just need some decent gaming hardware.

If you don’t exactly know what gaming hardware is, I’ve put together a guide explaining what it takes to have a gaming computer. You don’t necessarily need all of these components, so I’ve broken them down by level of importance.

3D Video Card

First and foremost, if you have to have a decent video card to play the latest 3D games. You can have the best computer around, but if it has a cheap video card, 3D games will appear to run as slow as if you had a slow computer. You don’t necessarily need the latest video card, because at the rate they come out it will be outdated in a few months anyway.. unless of course you have $500 burning a hole in your pocket and you really want to.

CPU

Since your CPU is the heart of the computer, this one is kind of obvious. Like most things, you don’t need the fastest CPU around, but if you want a real gaming computer, you’ll want something at or around 3 gigahertz (or 3000+ for you AMD enthusiasts).

You’ll also want something that has a fast front side bus. It’s usually best to find a motherboard and cpu that have similar front side bus speeds, because they work together, and the overall speed of the front side bus will only be as fast as the one with the slowest speed on it. It’s kind of like driving a sports car on a highway with a 55 mile per hour speed limit, the car might be able to go 155, but the highway will only let you go 55.

Memory

Also known as Ram, it’s what applications and games use to store information, the more the better. It’s good to have at least 512 Megabytes, but real gamers have 750 megabytes, to 1 Gigabyte or more. Memory is extremely cheap these days, it’s one of the cheapest and simplest upgrades you can do.

It’s not only the amount that matters though, they also come in different speeds. DDR2 is the fastest, cheapest memory you can get right now. If you have SDRam, you’ll probably want to upgrade your motherboard and CPU so you can have faster memory. It’s kind of drastic, but your games will most likely be sluggish if your equipment is that old. Regular DDR is good enough for gaming, it just doesn’t have the throughput that DDR2 does.

Motherboards

Today’s fastest motherboards have faster Front Side Bus. The Front Side Bus (or FSB) is essentially the highway that runs from the CPU to the Ram, the bigger the highway, the more traffic it can handle at once, making calculations faster. Another thing to watch out for is what kinds of hard drives it supports. If you want SATA or SCSI drives, either your motherboard needs to support them, or you need to purchase an expansion card to plug them into. You’ll also want a motherboard that supports the fastest computer memory you can get, which is currently DDR2.

Hard Drives

Hard drive speed may not sound important, but it can be one of many bottle necks that your computer runs into if it’s not up to par with the rest of your computer. If you purchase regular IDE hard drives, you’ll want at least 7200 rpm (rpm = rotations per minute, the more rotations the faster the drive).

If you want real speed though, you’ll want a Serial ATA hard drive (SATA), which is one of the fastest hard drives you can get without buying server grade hard drives (SCSI), which are pretty expensive. Your motherboard has to support SATA or SCSI though if you plan to purchase these kinds of hard drives, or you have to have a PCI expansion card to plug them into.

Sound Card

If you want gaming quality sound, then you definitely need to replace that stock or built in sound card for a decent gaming sound card. And if you want the full effect, go for a dolby 5.1 surround sound enabled sound card for that super crisp sound your games can produce. Mix that with some 5.1 enabled speakers, and your gaming experience just took a new turn.

Computer Cases

Ok, so computer cases aren’t that important for speed, but if you want your new gaming computer to look slick too, then you need a nice colored case. Your friends will be jealous, and you will finally be able to look at your computer and smile, because it looks so awesome.

So You Want to be a Games Developer?

In the good old days, back when the Internet had about 10 users and the web was a far off vision, PCs were called Home Computers and anyone could learn to write computer games. Three of us set up in business to write and sell our own games for the ZX Spectrum (Aka Timex/Sinclair) and Commodore 64. We didn’t sell many games but we were saved by getting into the game conversion business. A publisher would release a hit on the Commodore 64 and we’d write the Timex, Amstrad, MSX, CBM 16 etc versions. It took about 3 months for one person to produce a game.

That was 20 years ago and things have changed a lot since then. The games industry is now a massive multi billion dollar business and development teams can number 50 or more. My first game had me as programmer, artist, and beep designer – (well it wasn’t proper sound!). I did everything. Back then games were written in assembler and you had to learn 6502 and Z80. Nowadays with a few exceptions games are written in C and C++. The days of back room programmers aren’t entirely gone- there is also ‘retro remake’ and ‘indie’ scene, e.g. http://retrospec.sgn.net/ but unless you have an exceptionally brilliant idea, you are not likely to get into the mainstream game business as a one man outfit writing Blockbuster PC games.

It’s not all bad news though- if you can program to a very good standard and have learnt some of the techniques- eg 3d maths, artificial intelligence (ai), and can produce demos of your code then you may be able to get a job in the market. There are plenty of books and websites that will guide you through the intricacies of DirectX and before long you’ll be a guru on vertex shaders etc. Sign up on games development sites like http://gamasutra.com/ (it’s free) and look for jobs. You will have to be good to get a job and prepared to work long, in some case very long hours. It is quite a tough business – when a game is under development, you’ll live breathe and eat it for 18 months-two years. And you probably won’t work 9-5 all the time.

There are however other ways to get into the games business and I don’t mean console development. There are other ‘genres’ of games that are much easier to get into.

1. MUD – Multi-user dungeons. These have been around for 30 years and were the precursor to the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Games) that now exist. These are still popular and you can find the source code to several of these. I don’t know if any make money- most people are now used to playing them for free. Look here: http://www.ability.org.uk/mud.html

2. Internet/Web based games. There are hundreds of these around. A good starting point is the vast directory at http://www.mpogd.com/ . These range from free to monthly subscriptions. Anyone can set up their own website and games using any web technology- e.g. Perl, PHP, Java.

3. Play By Mail. This has now largely but not entirely moved into the Internet/Web Games area. Flagship magazine is a good source of information – their website is http://flagshipmagazine.com/

4. Flash Games. Flash development is a skill in itself, though programming in ActionScript (which is JavaScript under a different name) is not that hard. There is a definite career path available through programming Flash games and there are plenty of books to teach you to write games in Flash. Flashkit website http://www.flashkit.com/index.shtml is a good starting point online.

5. Mobile Phone and PDA games. This has become a big growth area recently and is likely to continue its growth as phones get more powerful. Its also one of the easiest to get into though not all phones are the same. All you need to know is how to write Java games running on the J2ME (Java 2 Mobile Edition) platform. Unlike the console world, Software Development Kits (SDKS) are available for free from mobile phone manufacturers. E.g. http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html and the best IDEs for J2ME development (Netbeans and Eclipse) are available free. Expect to see MMORPG (Mobile Multiplayer Online Role Play Games) before too long.

Much of this can be done part time in your evenings/weekends but be careful that you don’t let it take over your life and also that your employer doesn’t have any claim on software that you develop. Some employers have clauses that let them claim anything you develop. There are ways round this, often involving a wife or loved one who can be assigned ownership but take legal advice if in any doubt.

If you are learning to program games, don’t neglect the power of the web. Sourceforge.net is home to thousands of open source projects and many of those are games. Also game source for commercial games Quake I, II and III has been released by ID and can be found here http://www.idsoftware.com/business/techdownloads/

These are GPL’d so you wouldn’t be able to write games based on them and sell them without giving away the source code but you could write Mods. Several game modders have released very popular Mods free and have managed to get into the industry because of their quality. There are many games projects where you can sign up and program- this is an excellent way to learn new skills and make friends.

David Bolton is a software developer with an extensive past programming games. He co-founded Choice Software in Carrickfergus, N. Ireland between 1984 and 1987 and won an award for his original computer wargame Johnny Reb II (published by Lothlorien). He designed and programmed the Postal game Quest, which has also won awards and is still played (postally and online) 15 years after it was first developed. He worked for 12 months as game designer at Microprose (Manchester) in 1992. He is currently designing a large multiplayer role-play game, but it’s not due out until 2006.

Short Format Professional Videos Can Be a Great Benefit when Marketing Your Firm’s Products

In the present day, as a considerable number of business & managers are looking towards web video sites as a tremendous place to circulate content to grab the interest of their potential clients, it’s very important to tell between the key principles of using online video marketing channels.

Here are one or two indispensable items you have to know prior to you starting to publish professional videos on online video portals.

At all times make an effort to use videos that presents meaningful content to your potential customers – A lot of business people wrongly presume you can just put any type of advertisement on a video website, but nothing could be any closer from reality. Every single video should give some value added information to the target market, or start topic of chat.

Do some sort of market research on the video channels before uploading your first video – It’s a superb suggestion to give some considerable time typing your market’s important keywords into the search engine on the site, to learn what comparable promotional videos are at this time out there. Then make sure you have jotted down the profile names of the most prominent users in your market. Possibly later down the line you can make a joint venture or even have some kind of cooperation with these companies.

Keep in mind that each & every video channel has a society built into it – Because of this you are advised to respect the other members and it is suggested that you write positive annotations to your competitors’ videos. Essentially you need to be a member of the community, offering advice, ideas etc. And only then must you judge yourself as being a marketer & begin to distribute your very own 1 & products.

Commit yourself to creating various videos – You should have a clear strategy for making & distributing numerous videos. Or else, your organisation’s page on the video websites will give the idea of being empty if it merely has one video to watch. Hence, spend extra time organising the creation of a succession of short format corporate videos, rather than only one significantly long video. For online video publishing strategies that meets your companies requirements, take a look at the Vidify website now.

Internet video marketing is one of the best & quickest methods of marketing your firm these days.

Crime Writing Beckons

If your cash is running out fast and you have an incessant need to write, why not turn to crime?

No! Not committing crime, but to writing about crime. Crime is all around us, and people want to know about it. Don’t believe me? Turn on the five o’clock news, Lifetime TV or USA TV Network. You’ll see true crime stories run rampant across television schedules. True crime on television is the number two genre (next to romance). And guess what? Someone has to write those movie scripts–might as well be you.

Many movies are adapted from books. Again, someone has to write those books. It’s legal, profitable, and downright intriguing.

You ever wonder, when you’re watching the news, “How could she be so stupid?” or “Didn’t they know they were living with a maniac?” I do, it’s only natural. In fact, I think we feel it could never happen to us.

But, crime can happen to any one of us. That’s where true crime writing comes in. It answers the questions in story form.

For instance, we have learned that kids believe ’strangers’ are ugly and ’scary-looking’–like monsters. But we know that’s not accurate, so we teach our kids that a stranger can be good looking, well educated, and considerate. We can tell them about Ted Bundy (without the violence) and show them a picture if we really want to make the point. Many surviving crime victims often say that the person was so nice; they never suspected he could be capable of such destruction. We know this because we were told a story either in verbal, written, or picture form.

If true crime writing interests you, begin by searching local newspapers for stories. Don’t search across the country, unless you are independently wealthy! Anytime you see an article that looks interesting, clip it and put it in your ‘true crime clippings’ file. If there are more articles about the same crime, then you know it is intriguing enough to warrant your attention. Still… it does not mean it is enough for an entire book. To discover the answer to that question will take research.

Do you have a fascinating criminal? Is the crime random, or was the victim chosen for a reason? Is the place of action special (was it at Disneyland, for instance)? Can you write about a totally different lifestyle than what we know? Is the criminal a member of MENSA? Is she dressed up as a clown when she commits her crimes? Is the victim the first woman space rocket engineer? Perhaps the victim is a deaf child. All of these facts increase the story’s public interest and can take us into a world we have never been in before.

Are there subplots in the crime (not only did he murder his best friend, he also barged into his friend’s family life and became like another son, then he robbed them one night, and then…). These questions will help you decide if you have a story worth considering?

True crime writing is lucrative and actually a challenging kind of fun. It is about combining journalism with novel writing. Nonfiction with fiction. If you have what it takes — determination, time, and a strong stomach — you can take up this as a career and soar.

Writing Dialogue That Make Your Characters Come Alive

Characters in a good novel really carry the story along more than any other concept in writing. A problem I too often see in my clients’ writing is stale dialogue; the kind that sounds like every character is the same person.

Have you ever listened to people while at a party or in a crowd at the store? People speak in this country with many wonderful dialects. Learning to incorporate different ways of speaking will cause your characters to jump off the page appearing to be actual people. This is very important. Your readers must be able to identify and relate to those characters that drive your story.

How to do this is not complicated. When you are fleshing out your characters, do so with a notebook. Take your time and brainstorm about what kind of person each character is from appearance, career, education, family influence, idiosyncrasies, nationality, etc. By researching and developing your characters, you will come to know them like best friends. These fictional characters will actually lead you as you write.

For example – Your antagonist is an uneducated young man, rough, with a mental disorder. Which dialogue should you use to bring this character to life?

“I won’t do it, no matter how you try to convince me. In fact, you are causing me great turmoil.” Michael sat down, crossed his legs and sighed.

Or -

“Hell no I ain’t gonna do dat! No way, man. What, you’s think I’m a freakin’ idiot? You really on my nerves, man. Hey man, I gotta a gun that’ll fit in yer fat mouth real good, if you’s don’t shut up.” Michael paced back and forth, mumbling to himself, picking something off his shirt that wasn’t there.

The first example isn’t true to the Michael character at all. He sounds like any other person on the street, giving you no clues to his real personality. However, the second example tells you a few things about him; the manner in which he speaks shows that he is uneducated, angry, and rude. His actions tell the reader that he is seeing things that aren’t there, showing – not telling – that he has a problem with reality. In just a few sentences of dialogue, you have given the reader valuable information about Michael that would take an entire page to tell in narrative form.

Affective dialogue will move your story along much faster than writing paragraphs of description that could end up stalling your story. Dialogue is active writing that will put your readers in touch with your characters unlike any other story dynamic. Being true to your characters, and how they relate to the rest of the story, will be the most important writing dynamic of your book.

Wedding Reception Made for You

No matter how well you plan all the aspects of the wedding, one deciding factor on how well it goes is based upon the wedding reception-site. All kidding aside, having it “rain on your special day” is certainly not the ideal wedding reception environment for most people. Taking the time with wedding planning in advance, and brainstorming location ideas will go a long way towards creating your perfect wedding location.

Wedding environment and Weather

Weather, environment and setting are the three most important aspects when planning the wedding location. Consider the location and the elements in order to make the environment as comfortable as possible. Hiring a wedding planner will do wonders in taking the wedding ceremony and reception planning stress off your plate, but there are many elements of the planning you will want to choose yourself. Will the wedding be indoor – perhaps a hotel, golf and country club, local community hall? These places are generally easier to plan weddings for because they are designed to accommodate larger groups of people, and often have easy access to washroom facilities and power requirements for the D.J. or band. Do you like the outdoors – if so consider a large gazebo, garden setting, ballpark or other unique locations. Larger gazebos work very well in that you can have a fun time decorating, and spending less money on flowers if the space is smaller. Other examples of luxurious wedding locations are Ski lodge weddings, Boat and Cruise Ship ceremonies and camping – cabin weddings. The choice you make is only limited by resources and your imagination.

Scoping and Planning

The real key is to not place all of your eggs in one basket. Plan to select at least 4-5 locations for review. Meet with the appropriate persons (owners, city trade or hall) in order to establish the bottom line of what you will need to run your event there. Don’t be discouraged! All good wedding planning takes flexibility, perseverance and creative energy! If you have an outdoor venue booked for your wedding ceremony, always have a backup plan, preferably an indoor location in case of bad weather (unless you are lucky enough to live in a very sunny locale!) Draw out a setting map – a way to keep track of arrangement, where everyone will be seated, where particular elements will be. Search online for some great wedding planning ideas, as there is a host of great wedding planning websites available to help you stimulate some great ideas.

Always Get Things in Writing

Write up a contract, or read thoroughly through the document provided for the venue you choose, if there is one. Look in particular at elements such as time allowed, start and end times, maximum occupants, and damage deposits. It is usually a good idea to have a personal friend or relative with you when signing any contractual agreement.

Make It Your Own

Great, personal wedding ceremonies don’t necessarily come from great wedding planners. The idea wedding planner takes your idea of your perfect wedding, and translates it for you – helps to make it happen and allows you to enjoy the event to its fullest. If you choose a wedding planner, find one who ‘augments’ your style, is flexible and willing to look ‘beyond the box’. Some of the best wedding ceremonies were created by everyday people like you and I who were willing to chance to create their own unique wedding theme, and follow it through.

Divorce and the Sale of the Marital Home

There is one asset that is common in thousands of divorces: the marital home. The marital home is frequently the largest asset a couple owns. Many times, the marital home is the one and only asset a couple owns. And as the major or sole marital asset, special attention should be devoted to this issue during a divorce.

In divorce, one of the major challenges is to fairly divide assets acquired during the marriage. Real estate presents a unique challenge. Because of recent changes in the market, real estate has dramatically increased in value. This rapid increase created large amounts of equity for many couples. Large amounts of equity translate into large amounts of money. More important – large amounts of money make it possible for divorcing spouses to create a new life. Potential uses for the money include: the purchase of a new home, moving out of the area, going back to school, or to repurchase lost possessions. Money makes it possible to become “normal” again. That is why the division of the marital home is such a critical challenge that both spouses must solve.

Most divorce decrees require the sale of the marital home, with the proceeds divided equally by the divorcing couple. This scenario is the simplest solution. A properly written divorce agreement for the sale of a home must address the following issues: A deadline date for placing the home on the market, who will occupy the house until sale, which spouse will pay expenses of the home until sale, how the house will be listed for sale, and how the sale price will be selected. Unless the divorce decree addresses all issues there is potential for argument and lost money long after the divorce is finalized.

Even though each divorce is unique, there are some common things you can do to make the sale of the marital home a more predictable and smooth experience. If there is more than five thousand dollars in equity, always invest in a licensed appraisal report. A licensed appraisal report is done by a professional appraiser – not a real estate agent. Expect to pay between $300 and $700 for the report. If there are simple, cosmetic things you can do to boost the value of the house – do it now. Everything you do to increase the value of the home will benefit you financially and increase the chance of a smooth divorce. Always list your home with a licensed real estate agent. Pick one that both you and your spouse can trust. Now is not the time to do a “for sale by owner” or use a “friend of a friend.” An independent, licensed real estate professional that arranges a sale based on the report of a licensed appraiser is a transaction that is difficult to attack. And when things go bad in a divorce people frequently look for something to attack.

If you are faced with divorce and can agree to sell the marital home, both spouses have the opportunity to walk away with cash. And cash makes it possible to start new lives. Based on observation of many divorces, the chance of walking away without a bitter fight gets better when each spouse has the opportunity to begin a new life. Finally, if selling is a possibility, do it the smart way. Sell at the proper market price and do it in a way that does not lead to argument. You will have less stress and a better “second life.”

Moderate Danger When Acquiring Homes Out Of The Country

The prevalence of budget air tickets – sometimes cheaper than a domestic train journey – has improved to make purchasing a property overseas a simpler choice; even in this stage of universal fiscal uncertainty. Without mentioning that a estate in a foreign country has massive investment capabilities – even through restoration and sale or renting your property as a vacation home.

I have noticed that many persons are unacquainted or ill informed in relation to the hidden risks implicated with purchasing assets overseas. Although there are some simple systems you can use to be sure you save capital, obtain a large estate and avoid potential constant worry, discomfort and economic crisis.

Firstly you’ll need to closely examine currency fluctuations; this not basically applies to the instance while you are purchasing the cottage, although plus any phase when you’ll be performing repairs or even taking widespread holidays. This issue is mostly dominant in today’s global economic climate.

You must make sure you find local construction directive – some times individuals face difficulty because they had not correctly acknowledged their rights. This is relevant to both purchasing a property and renovating it. You also should find that the assets just about your property will not be put on the market on and buildings built on it.

You should also research the companies you are dealing with – chances are that if there is any negative publicity about them, that is can be on line. A simple Google search can certainly correct this – persons like to be voiced with reference to things that have frustrated them; but be certain to look past page one – or dig through consultant forums… that is where you will uncover the authentic information and not just the commercial spiel. Advertise your property overseas quick and easy at Property Index.

Mountain Areas in Europe and America Are Growing in Number

Telemarking increases in participants, and the majority of the worlds ski resorts, including Auron, Les Gets, Samoens, and Flegere are working more than ever in order to ensure all visitors revel in their skiing break both on and off the mountain. Of course they’re numerous skiing resorts to pick out, however recently skiing towns across the French Alps and N. America have been taking the essential measures to be sure that their clients do not have the same old skiing vacation.

However, it’s not merely America where one should possibly search for your snowboarding holidays, because the French Alps offers some exceptional snowboarding experiences and luxury ski resorts – the popular French Alps rarely disappoints. Flaine in the European Alps is in the process of being revamped – famous for constituting the highest sightseeing platform in the Alps – a new bar being built which will include beds to accommodate keen mountaineers and snowboarders. Moreover Chamonix Haute Savoie has made great progress with the construction of many newfangled chair lifts.

Whether it is the French Alps or the U.S. one decides to go visit for snowboarding short breaks, counting the feats made to improve the experience for the holidaymaker, it is much more likely the holiday shall necessitate a action packed time of playfulness and frippery. And so what is it you are holding off for? Go and reserve your skiing holiday today.
