Sellar Property Group had planned to build the tallest building in the UK in London Bridge Place. However, the work has halted and been postponed for the time being. The demolition at the site, which was to be completed by May 2009 has not even been started, and has now been postponed until the end of 2009. While the developer claims that the postponement is due to logistical reasons, many argue that it may be permanent and the Sellar Group may be reconsidering the construction of the building in face of the pressures of recession.

This will be a disappointment for the tenants who have already booked office space on the building from May 2012 onwards. The future bookings had been made considering the prestige of having office space in the tallest building of the UK.

The London Bridge Quarter development organization has said that the developers will decide on how to move forward with the project once the area is cleared completely by the second half of 2010.

The London Bridge Place will have 420,000 square feet of floor space and the building, which is named Shard, would have 400,000 square feet of office space in it. This planned massive shared office space area is not yet rented. The London Bridge House has to be knocked down first, before the new office space could be to let.
