The Win/Lose Hand
A poker online pal recently commented that he does great “winning and loosing with pocket 8s.” Every poker player is familiar with that story. You win a huge pot when your small pocket pair completes to a set or when you’re A-6 makes a full house. It becomes your favorite hand for awhile, until it loses at the jeux de casino.
Obviously playing a drawing poker online hand or small pockets just because they have won in the past is not sound logic. There are times any hand, including pocket Aces, will win, then later it will lose. It is foolish to fall in love with a “favorite hand” based on a previous big win with it.
Always play your hands according to your starter range discipline and the perceived strength of other players at the table. Every poker game is a new situation even when the players are the same you competed with last week.
Don’t make assumptions that because you are dealt pocket Kings, winning the pot will be a cinch. Recognize that anything can happen post-flop and probably will on the turn. Don’t let biases from the past influence your game in the present.
You can’t take anything for granted in poker. A favorite hand can become a trap that costs you valuable chips.
