Sauray Ghoshal, India’s national squash champion, will lead the country’s challenge at the upcoming Men’s World Team Squash Championship which will be held in Odense, Denmark. This prestigious racquet sporting event will start from September 27 and will end on October 3, 2009.

The world number 32 will have a lot of pressure coming as he’s expected to do well in this tournament. He will also be getting support from the country’s top players such as Ritwik Bhattacharya (ranked 65th in the world), PSA Indian Challenger-3 winner Hariner Pal Sandhu and Siddhart Suchde.

The prestigious squash tournament is currently on its 22nd edition and is being held biennially.

India is grouped together with Scotland, Venezuela and Italy in Group H. Italy is the highest ranked team in the group (ranked eighth).

Since the start of the competitions in 1967, India has not won the title. The best finish by the South Asian country was fifth during the inaugural year only, where only six countries participated.

Two years ago, India finished eighth out of nine countries when the competitions were held in the country.

The top seeded team for this year’s competition is Egypt. This was not considered a surprise considering three of the top five players in the world come from this country. World number one Karim Darwish and world number three Amr Shabana are expected to banner the country’s flag in the competitions. This could be Egypt’s biggest chance to win the title for the first time in ten years.

Defending champions England secured the second seeding as determined by the World Squash Federation (WSF). Making a debut in the competitions is Serbia.
