The MOBO Awards 2009 played host to a moving tribute for Michael Jackson, who was awarded the MOBO Lifetime Achievement Award. The Michael Jackson Billie Jean song is probably one of his most well know but stars performed a number of Jackson hits in memory of him.

Britain’s Got Talent star Shaheen Jafargholi sang the moving Jackson 5 song I’ll Be There in tribute to the music legend, while fellow BGT starss, dance troupe Diversity, performed a synchronised dance to a medley of Michael Jackson hits including Bad.

But perhaps the most moving tribute came from Michael’s siblings La Toya and Jermaine.

La Toya – who introduced the celebration of the singer’s life – told the crowds: “My little brother Michael was the biggest star the music world has ever seen.”

She added that Michael “exceeded all barriers – social, racial or generational” and that he “inspired, shocked and amazed” all who met him.

And Jermaine got up on stage to sing Smile, one of Michael’s favourite songs. He said: “It’s so funny because Michael always said smile no matter how much pain you’re in.”

The crowds were treated to a slideshow featuring pictures from the Billie Jean singer’s career and many got to their feet to show a mark of respect for the late singer, who passed away in June, just weeks before embarking on his final tour, entitled This Is It.
